Development of the prototype for the RTP (Robust Torch Positioning) system—a laser-guided joint tracking solution for automated submerged arc welding of circular workpieces. The system was developed for semi-narrow grooves, where the workpiece may drift on roller beds and joint preparation can include significant imperfections. Upstream groove measurement was combined with high-frequency real-time torch correction at approximately 150 updates per second, enabling accurate torch positioning throughout welding. The project also included dedicated scanner software and hardware developed specifically for the application.
